What is Celebrate Recovery?

Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-centered recovery program that has helped people in churches around the world since 1991. It is built on eight principles drawn from the Beatitudes (Matthew 5) and the twelve steps, with Jesus Christ as the one and only Higher Power. It is a safe place to find freedom from the things that keep you stuck, with people who have walked the same road.

It is not just for drugs and alcohol. People come to Celebrate Recovery for anger, grief and loss, anxiety and depression, codependency, food, relationships, past abuse, pornography, gambling, and chemical dependency. Many come because life simply hurts and they want somewhere honest to talk about it.

What to expect on your first Thursday

Walk in a few minutes before 6:30. Someone will meet you at the door and show you where to go. A typical night looks like this:

  1. Dinner, 6:30 PM. Come hungry. We eat together first; it is the easiest way to meet people.
  2. Large group, 7:00 to 7:45 PM. Worship, prayer and either a lesson on one of the principles or a testimony from someone whose life has changed.
  3. Newcomers welcome. On your first visit, a leader will walk you through how Celebrate Recovery works and answer your questions. You only need to do this once.
  4. Open share small groups. Men and women meet separately in small groups where you can share, or just listen. What is said in the group stays in the group, and you can pass at any time.

Come as you are. Wear what you like. Bring a friend if it helps. There is nothing to sign and nothing to pay, and the kids are looked after while you are in the meeting.

Childcare

Childcare is available every Thursday during the meeting. You do not need to register or let us know ahead of time: there is always a childcare volunteer at Spirit City to care for the children while you are in large group and small groups.

Where we meet

Celebrate Recovery meets at Spirit City Church North Etowah, 231 Pennsylvania Ave, Etowah, TN 37331. Star Bethel hosts the ministry there because it needs more room than our County Road 890 building has. Park in the church lot and look for the Celebrate Recovery signs.

Frequently asked questions

Is Celebrate Recovery only for drug and alcohol addiction?

No. Celebrate Recovery is for any hurt, hang-up or habit: anger, grief, anxiety, depression, codependency, food, relationships, past abuse, pornography, gambling, and chemical dependency. Most people come for something other than drugs or alcohol.

Do I have to be a church member or a Christian to come?

No. Celebrate Recovery in Etowah is open to the whole community. You do not need to belong to Star Bethel or any church, and you do not need to know anything about the Bible.

How much does it cost?

Nothing. Celebrate Recovery is free, and so is the dinner at 6:30. There is no registration and no sign-up; just come on a Thursday.

Do I have to talk?
